Second Half Goals Doom Beavers Against Spalding

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team went into halftime tied at 1-1 against Spalding University on Thursday afternoon in Carlinville only to see the Golden Eagles find the back of the net twice for a 3-1 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss.  Spalding's Mustafa Almohammedaw registered a hat-trick on the afternoon.

The Golden Eagles struck first in the match as Almohammedaw scored at the 8:35 mark with an assist from Ethan Eckert.  Three and a half minutes later the Golden Eagles were whistled for a handball in the box giving Blackburn a golden opportunity with a penalty kick.  Shane Greathouse took advantage and went to the back left corner to knot the match at 1-1.  Greathouse's goal was his team leading sixth of the season.  The match remained tied going into the half.

In the second half, Almohammedaw scored twice to give Spalding the lead and then some insurance.  Six minutes into the second half Almohammedaw scored his second goal with an assist credited to Chadrack Mulondoni.  Then at 78:55 Almohammedaw completed the hat-trick as he scored on a pass from Jordan Finneran.  Spalding led in shots taken by a 22-5 margin and had ten corner kicks to the Beavers one.

Senior goalkeeper Dawson Klunk played very well in goal with nine saves including the stopping of a Golden Eagle penalty kick.  Blackburn falls to 1-11-2 overall and 0-6 in the SLIAC.  The Beavers have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Fulton, Missouri on Saturday to take on Westminster College.
