Blackburn Surrenders to Iowa Wesleyan

A tight game was decided in the seventh inning as Blackburn fell to Iowa Wesleyan 8-4 in seven innings Saturday, April 12.

Game 1:

Jillian Leutscher got the win for Iowa Wesleyan. She allowed four runs over seven innings. Jillian struck out six, walked one and gave up nine hits.

Iowa Wesleyan was sparked by Leutscher and Mikalya Dwyer, who teamed up for seven hits and six RBIs.

Amber Byrley was charged with the loss. She allowed eight runs in seven innings, walked two and struck out four.

In the top of the second, Iowa Wesleyan grabbed the early lead, 2-0. A solo blast by Dwyer started the inning off. The scoreboard lit up again for Iowa Wesleyan when Bury scored on an RBI double by Kristine Becks.

Iowa Wesleyan never surrendered the lead after the seventh inning, scoring five runs on a two-run double by Leutscher and two singles.

Game 2:

Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Erica Wilson could carry the Blackburn Softball Team past Iowa Wesleyan as the Beavers suffered a 1-0 defeat.

Wilson had a hot bat for Blackburn, going 2-4. She singled in the third and seventh innings.

Wilson was a workhorse in the circle for the Beavers. She allowed no earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out four over six innings of work.

Stephanie Tillmann got the win for Iowa Wesleyan. She tossed seven innings of shutout ball. She struck out nine, walked two and surrendered four hits.

Iowa Wesleyan scored its only run of the game on an RBI single by Andrea Bury in the sixth inning.
