Blackburn Softball Drops Doubleheader at Fontbonne

ST. ANN, MO -- Blackburn College Softball visited Fontbonne University for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader but were unable to bring home victory as they fell 11-1 and 2-1.

Freshman Kailynn Kruep and Kenadee Frey combined to score both runs for the Beavers.

Kruep scored in the opener after starting the fourth inning with a walk. She advanced to second on a ground out then stole third. Frey knocked her in with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to put Blackburn on the board. However, it was the only run BC scored during the game as they fell 11-1.

The nightcap saw the roles reverse. Frey got on with a walk then scored when Kruep hit a double to centerfield for the lone Blackburn run. With the game tied going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Fontbonne was able to score the game-winning run to win 2-1.

The Beavers fell to 12-16 on the year, 1-5 in the league play while the Griffins improved to 12-15 overall and 6-1 in the SLIAC. Blackburn returns to action Wednesday when they host Westminster College for another SLIAC doubleheader.
