Women's Basketball Topped by Iowa Wesleyan

The Blackburn College Women’s Basketball Team played a home contest against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents from Iowa Wesleyan College on Saturday, December 6. The Tigers from Iowa Wesleyan topped Blackburn by a final score of 77-51

The game started with both teams playing well and it seemed to be shaping up into a good game. With 12:04 remaining in the first half, Iowa Wesleyan went on a 14-0 run in just over three minutes. Blackburn was never able to come back from. Iowa Wesleyan found themselves ahead 43-26 at the half behind eight first half three-point field goals.

The second half started with a 9-0 run by the Tigers and it seemed as if they were running away with the game until Blackburn went on their own 13-0 run and found themselves down by only ten points with 9:02 remaining in the second half. Iowa Wesleyan answered back and ended the game up by 26 with a final score of 77-51.

The Beavers were led by senior, Briana Rae who scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and sophomore, Aleisha Stiltner who scored 14 points, made four three-point field goals and grabbed six rebounds. Iowa Wesleyan was led by Whitney Godden who scored 28 points behind 8-12 from behind the three-point line, four steals and five rebounds.

With this loss the Beavers move to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference. Blackburn will be back in action on December 13 against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
