Beavers Fall To Griffins

Beavers Fall To Griffins
Saturday afternoon, the Blackburn Women's Basketball team took on Fontbonne University in a SLIAC conference matchup. Despite the efforts made by Blackburn, the game began and ended with Fontbonne in the lead, with an end score of 79-39.

The Fontbonne Griffins jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the Beavers slowly showed they were able to fight back. By the end of the first quarter, the Beavers were only down by five points, with a score 17-12. The second quarter went about the same as the first, and the Beavers went into halftime down by a mere twelve points.

The third quarter was the final breaking point for the Beavers, as the Griffins took a giant leap in the scoring, ending the third quarter with a lead of 35 points. Despite the huge deficit, Blackburn never once gave up as they fought hard through the entire fourth quarter. Although they held their heads high and gave their all, it wasn't enough to get the comeback they wanted.

Maria Cline led Blackburn with eight points, while Alexia Duncan contributed six. Leading rebounds for Blackburn was Elisabeth Johnston with seven rebounds, and both Daniele Burnell and Maria Cline had six rebounds.

The next time the women play will be on Wednesday, January 25th, at MacMurray College. Tip-off will be at 6 pm
