Mount Mary Takes Win as Blackburn Losses Fifth Straight

Jenna Dudra (Pana, Illinois / Pana) scored 18 points and Savannah Kruse (Lake St. Louis, Missouri / Liberty) added 14 but Blackburn’s efforts were outdone as they would take the 74-65 loss to Mount Mary Monday night in the non-conference matchup.

Dudra added eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists to go along with her high scoring performance. Madison Duncan (Dixon, Missouri / Dixon) contributed well with 11 points coming off the bench to go with three rebounds and three assists for the Beavers (now 2-8). The Blue Angels (now 6-3) were led by Erica Williams with 22 points and Rae Grubbs who had 20.

Mount Mary went on a 14-4 run within the first six minutes of the game to lead by 10 points early on in the game. Blackburn would have a hard time fighting their way back and end up trailing 23-10 to finish the quarter.

The Blue Angels would continue their winning ways in the second quarter shooting 8 of 17 from the field and 3 of 3 from the line. Their three-point shooting would be topped by the Beavers however as BC shot 42.9 percent to Mount Mary’s 25 percent.

The third quarter began close as both teams went 7-7 up until the 3:36 mark. The Beavers then went on a 9-5 run fuel by two free throws and a three-pointer by Duncan to close out the quarter.

Blackburn scored six points to began the final period of play to cut the Blue Angels lead to six points with 8:40 minutes remaining. However, Mount Mary’s efforts were too much, as Blackburn couldn’t catch their opponents with the time remaining. MM went on to wrap up the game 74-65. ­­­
