Beavers Lose to Undefeated Webster on Senior Night

Lady Beavers lose to Webster on Senior Night

 

Blackburn Women's Basketball Team lost to conference rival the Webster Gorloks on Senior Night. Webster defeated Blackburn with a score of 98-66.  

 

In the first quarter, Webster started off with a big run that at the 1:52 mark with Webster's Emily Wilson layup made it 23-6 in favor of the Gorloks. That took Webster with the lead to end the quarter with the score 23-8. In the second quarter, Blackburn tried to create a comeback by cutting the lead to 11 at the 2:26 mark of the quarter with Blackburn's Aryanna Harris making a layup that made the score, 39-28. But then Webster had a 12-3 run to end the half with the score, 51-31.

 

Blackburn in the third quarter traded baskets with Webster as and kept even with them. Yet, Webster ended up winning the quarter by 4 points, 20-16 taking them to the fourth quarter with the score, 71-47.

 

In the fourth quarter, Blackburn tried once more to dwindle the big lead against Webster. Yet the Gorloks offense kept responding, extending their biggest lead of the game of 32 points at the 1:38 mark of the quarter with Nysa Gilchirst making a layup that led to the end of the game. 

 

In the last regular season game, Blackburn shot 40.6% from the field while shooting 23.5 % from the three-point mark. Junior Aryanna Harris led the team in scoring and assists with 14 points and 5 assists. Also one of our seniors, Callista Francis had herself a day leading the Beavers in rebounds with 16 boards.

 

Blackburn's regular season ended with a 5-20 record  (3-12 in SLIAC conference play) and will head on to the SLIAC tournament as a 7th seed to play at 2nd seed Westminster on Wednesday, February 23rd at 7pm.

 

Blackburn would like to honor and celebrate the careers of their five seniors, Callista Francis, Taliyah Davis, Madison Duncan, MacKenzie Adams and Katie Rhodes.

 

Francis played three years at Blackburn where she started 27 of her 60 games and averaged 7.2 points, 0.8 assists and 7.7 rebounds.

 

Davis played two years at Blackburn where she started 27 of her 34 games and averaged 9.2 points, 2.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds.

 

Duncan also played two years at Blackburn where she started 29 of her 49 games and averaged 5 points, 1.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds 

 

Adams played one year here at the Burn where she played 19 games averaging 3.1 points, 1.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds 

 

Lastly but not least, Rhodes also played two years for the Beavers where she played 10 games and averaged 0.7 points. She supported her team this year as a student manager being a leader and mentor for all her teammates.
