Volleyball Splits Two Matches

The Blackburn College Volleyball Team split a pair of matches on Friday in the Dawes Gymnasium in Carlinville.  In their first match the Beavers defeated non-conference opponent Central Christian College of the Bible in three straight sets by the scores of 25-12, 25-23, and 25-13.  The nitecap did not go as well as the Beavers were bested by St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for Spalding University, also in three sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-13, 25-12.

Against the Saints of Central Christian the Beavers came out hot on their way to the three set sweep.  Victoria Bowens led the way with 17 kills and twelve assists.  Patrece McLain led Blackburn with 23 assists. Marlee Lindstrom led the Beavers with ten digs.  McLain added nine digs and Alexis Dick had eight in the winning effort.

In the second match, Spalding controlled play throughout the night in the sweep.  Bowens had six kills to lead Blackburn while McLain contributed five assists.  One bright spot was the serving of Candace Pollock who came off the bench to record five serve aces including three straight at one point in the match.

Blackburn is now 3-18 on the season and 1-10 in conference play while Spalding improves to 9-14 overall and 6-4 in the league.  Central Christian is 4-10 on the season.
