Volleyball Suffers Close Loss

Inside a very humid Dawes Gymnasium, Blackburn looked to be in control in the early minutes of the match Wednesday evening.  The Beavers established an 11-5 lead, and were in position to run away with the opening set.  Yet the Lady Blues of Illinois College rallied to tie the game at 18.  The lead went back and forth from that point until IC pulled away to take the first set 25-22.

Set two featured a similar formula.  The Beavers had jumped out to a 12-5 lead and maintained their lead for nearly the rest of the match. However Blackburn had set point 24-21 when IC once again put together a late comeback and scored five straight service points to steal set two 26-24.

With their backs against the wall, Blackburn stumbled early in the third set and fell behind 8-3.  The Beavers unfortunately were unable to rebound from the early deficit as IC cruised to an easy 25-14 victory, taking the match.

For the Beavers, Victoria Bowens had a stellar night with a match-high 15 kills and added 11 digs of her own.  Allie Matt also had six kills with 12 digs, while Marlee Lindstrom added 15 digs as well.  Blackburn now sits with a 1-12 record and looks to rebound this Saturday at Principia College against Principia and Fontbonne Univeristy.
