Volleyball Falls in SLIAC Tourney

FULTON, MO. -- Blackburn College visited Westminster College in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals but fell to the Blue Jays 3-0. 

Junior Cara Pence led the team's offensive attack with nine kills with senior Emily Eitzenhefer adding eight kills. Freshmen Tessa Funderburk and Kenadee Frey tallied 15 assists each. Senior Emilie King notched two aces. 

Freshman Tam Nguyen finished the match with 17 digs while King chipped into the effort with nine. 

The first set of the night saw BC face an early deficit but they battled back to force a 6-6 tie. However, the hosts rallied to pull ahead 21-11. After a timeout, Blackburn came out and pulled the set to 24-21, but Westminster was able to get a set victory with a score of 25-21. 

Westminster was able to pull ahead early in the second set behind a 10-3 rally which allowed the Blue Jays to eventually capture a 25-18 victory to take the second set. 

In the third set the two teams fought to an 8-8 tie. Unfortunately the hosts broke the tie with a 6-0 run which helped power them to a 25-21 set win to capture the match 3-0. 

With the loss, Blackburn's season comes to a close. The Beavers finish the season 12-20, 7-11 in the SLIAC. The 12 wins are a seven-game improvement over the 2022 season.
