Pence, Cazares Earn Blackburn Player of the Week Honors
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Senior Volleyball player Cara Pence and freshman Men's Soccer player Cristian Cazares were named Blackburn College Athletes of the Week after strong performances last week.
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Senior Volleyball player Cara Pence and freshman Men's Soccer player Cristian Cazares were named Blackburn College Athletes of the Week after strong performances last week.
Pence led the volleyball ball team with 35 kills in two matches, averaging 3.89 kills per set. She also added three aces. Defensively, the senior was second on the team with 36 digs. Her efforts led the Beavers to a 3-1 victory over Webster University on Wednesday and followed it by helping the team take Eureka College to a fifth set Saturday afternoon.
Cazares scored the team's goal in the soccer team's match at Greenville College Saturday. In the 28th minute, Blackburn took a corner kick that was headed directly to his feet and Cazares blasted the ball between a GC defender and their goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.
This week sees volleyball head to Mississippi University for Women to take on the Owls and Greenville College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tri-match. The men's soccer team will head to Eureka for an important match with major postseason implications while the women's soccer team hosts Eureka in their final match of the season. The contest will also serve as the team's Senior Day where the team will honor their lone senior, Alexis Drury.
Cross Country heads to the SLIAC Championships Saturday which are run in Litchfield, Illinois. On Saturday, the wrestling teams will host the Spencer Lee Wrestling Clinic.
