National Girls & Women in Sports Day

National Girls & Women in Sports Day

Today, February 1st, is National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This marks the 37th year that the event has been put on by the Women's Sports Foundation, and Blackburn College is proud to be a part of this celebration of female athletes. National Girls and Women in Sports Day is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the achievements earned by female athletes. It also gives an opportunity to highlight the positive influence of participating in athletics and illustrate the ongoing battle for equality for women in sports.

Sponsored by the WSF (Women's Sports Foundation), this celebratory day inspires girls and women alike to be active in athletics, to realize their full power and potential. As many athletes can agree, the strength, confidence and character gained through the participation of athletics are unlike any other attributes that athletes can possess. Girls and women in sports have the opportunity to gain these traits, as well as discover other life lessons through the participation of athletics. These lessons and tools obtained by the girls and women in sports will allow them to become exceptional leaders in sports and in their individual lives.

The Women's Sports Foundation came out of 2022 after celebrating a year-long Title IX 50th Anniversary. This year's celebration will mark the beginning of the next 50 years, where the WSF will continue to highlight the importance of Title IX in hopes of showing future generations the importance of equal rights.
