The Blackburn College Baseball Team opened their spring trip with a three-game series at Austin College in Sherman, Texas and Isaac Garrett got the Beavers off to a good start as he pitched six innings scattering seven hits as the Beavers opened the trip with a 7-6 victory.  The Beavers scored five runs in the top of the second as Mitchell Binder led off by being hit by a pitch, Adam Holm followed with a bunt single, Derek Dickerson then singled to left to load the bases.  Blackburn then took a 1-0 lead on a Gage Hemmann fielders choice.  Blaine Dunning then reached on an infield single to give Blackburn a 2-0 lead.  Nolan Rooney then singled to re-load the bases and Trevor Platt followed with a two-run double, the Beavers capped the scoring on an RBI single by Christian Padilla.

Garrett allowed just a run in the third inning before Padilla had an RBI single in the 4th and then in the 5th Binder scored on an error to give the Beavers a 7-1 lead.  Austin College then battled back against the Blackburn bullpen scoring four runs in the 7th and another in the 8th.  Wtih Blackburn leading 7-5 going into the 9th Austin rallied again as they scored with two outs to cut the lead to 7-6 before Sammy Gordon struck out the final out with two men on to give the Beavers the series opening win.

Padilla and Dunning led the 13 hit Beaver attack with three hits apiece and Holm and Dickerson added two hits each.

In game on on Sunday the Beavers fell behind 4-0 before scoring three in the top of the 4th in the seven-inning game.  Blackburn then trailed 6-3 in the sixth before Tyler Jackson blasted a game-tying three-run homerun that cleared the net and hit halfway up the building behind the left field wall.  Blackburn threatened to take the lead in the 7th but missed out on the opportunity with a blown squeeze bunt.  Austin College then walked off the game with a hit in the bottom of the 7th.

In the series finale, Blackburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead but that was all the scoring the Beavers could muster as Austin chipped at the lead taking a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 9th inning.  The Beavers got the lead off man on but he was cut down stealing second and the Kangaroos held on for the series win.

Blackburn is 3-5 and will play Howard Payne University for the first time ever in Brownswood, Texas on Tuesday afternoon.
