Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader

Blackburn Baseball sweeps Eureka in a home doubleheader by the scores of 12-2 and 10-8 on April 27th. 

 

In the first game, Zach Knox pitched a gem allowing two runs in five innings. The Beavers bats also gave him some run support by out hitting Eureka 15 to 9. 

 

After a scoreless half inning, the Beavers would strike first. Leadoff man Adam Holm and Nolan Rooney both walked. Holm would eventually score on a passed ball. Rooney would also score on a wild pitch to give the Beavers an early two to zero lead. Eureka would cut the lead in half with a single from Dylan Hill in the top of the third. After the third inning Coach Mike Neal had a few words of wisdom that woke up the Beavers. Blackburn would score eight runs over the next two innings. With one out, Derek Dickerson would walk. Blaine Dunning singles and advances Dickerson. With two outs, Avery Dugan doubles to center field to bring in both runners. Trevor Platt would reach base by a hit by pitch. Jaidon Erivez would single to bring in Dugan and advance Platt. Holm would keep the bats moving by singling and bringing home Erivez. The Beavers would score all four of their runs with two outs in the 3rd inning. Blackburn would continue their two out rally trend as they scored another four runs in the 4th inning with two outs. Dunning would kick off the rally by doubling to center field. He would later be driven in by another double from Binder. Dugan would continue the double trend by bringing home Binder. The inning would continue with two consecutive walks. Holm would stay hot singling in Dugan. Nolan Rooney would walk with the bases loaded to bring in another run. The Beavers were leading 10-1 heading into the 5th inning. The Red Devils would add a run of their own in the 5th to cut the lead to 10-2. Holm would continue his impressive night by doubling to drive in Platt. Holm would also add a stolen base later that inning. Evan Hopper was intentionally walked to load the bases in the bottom of the 7th. Platt would then single down the left field line to mercy rule the Red Devils in the 7th by the final score of 12-2.

Losing pitcher:

Trevor Wingard: 3.2 IP, 10 ER, 7 BB, 5 SO

Adam Holm: 3-4, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SB

Avery Dugan: 2-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 R

Mitch Binder: 3-5, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB



Game two consisted of plenty of offense as both teams combined for a total of 18 runs and 26 hits. Eureka would get out of the gates early by scoring in the top of the first inning. Blackburn would answer back as Holm walked and was later driven in by Tyler Jackson. The Beavers would add four more runs giving them a five run lead headed into the second. In the top of the second the Red Devils would add a run by making the score five to three. In the top of the third, Eureka would take the lead scoring five runs. The Beavers would hurt themselves with base on balls and sloppy play. Ryan Lopez would add one back for the Beavers making the score seven to six. After a few quiet innings, the Beavers would answer back to get back the lead. Tyler Jackson would double to bring in two runners. He would later be driven in with a single from Binder to extend the lead making the score nine to seven heading into the 7th inning. Holm would add to his impressive day with another double to drive in Platt. This would extend the Beavers lead to 10-7. Eureka would get one back by scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the 8th. In the top of the 9th, Kolton Beckett would relieve Hayden Sheehan. He would strike out two batters and get a fly out to secure the Beavers victory.
