Late Rally Dooms Blackburn Baseball

FT WORTH, TEXAS – The Blackburn College Baseball team held a lead after six innings but were unable to hold on after a seventh inning rally by Arlington Baptist University proved too much to overcome.

Senior Jason Hedges scored three runs for the Beavers along with a double and a run batted in. Dominic Medrano finished with two hits, two RBI's and a run scored while Andrew Lozano notched two hits and two RBI's.

Zach Knox had two doubles and Diego Perez had two hits and scored once.

The scoring started in the third inning. Hedges was hit by a pitch then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Brett Lander. Lozano followed with a single to score Hedges. The lead was short lived though as the hosts scored in the bottom of the inning.

The fifth inning started the same way with Hedges getting hit by another pitch. After advancing to third, he scored again off a sacrifice fly by Lozano. Medrano followed with a single and then scored off a double by Knox and an ABU error to give Blackburn a 3-1 lead.

Blackburn put three more runs on the board in the sixth. Perez singled and scored on a Hedges double. Lander came up to the bat and reached on an error. After a Lozano walk, Medrano doubled to score Hedges and Lander and put BC ahead 6-3.

However, Arlington Baptist scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning which proved too much to overcome and took an 8-6 win.

Blackburn will take Thursday off before finishing their Texas trip with one games against Dallas Christian College Friday and Saturday.
