Blackburn Opens Home SLIAC Schedule

CARLINVILLE, IL – Blackburn College Baseball hosted St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Spalding University in the team's SLIAC home opener but fell to the Golden Eagles 12-2 and 13-1 in a conference doubleheader.

Sophomore Brett Lander led the way for Blackburn as he finished with four hits and two runs scored. He also added a stolen base. Senior Isaac Gleaves aided the effort with two runs batted in. He hit a double and a home run while also getting hit by a pitch and scoring a run.

The first game saw Lander single in the third inning. He advanced to third on a single from Andrew Lozano then scored with senior Zach Knox's single, making it 3-1. The Beavers added another run in the fifth inning when Gleaves hit his sixth homer of the season. However, the Golden Eagles scored runs in all but one inning to eventually capture the 12-2 win.

In the second game, Blackburn was down five runs heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Lander got the inning started with a single then stole second. After Lander's steal, Gleaves hit his double to score Lander. Unfortunately, Spalding added runs in the fifth, six, and eighth inning to capture a 13-1 victory.

Blackburn will continue SLIAC play this weekend by visiting Mississippi University for Women on Saturday. They then return to their home field Monday to host Maranatha Baptist University in nonconference play.
