Blackburn Takes on Monmouth

MONMOUTH, IL -- The Blackburn College Baseball team travelled to Monmouth College Thursday night for a single game. Despite an early lead, the Beavers were unable to hold on before fallint 10-4.
BC got on the board first, scoring in the third inning. Sophomore Luke Ellinger started the inning with a double and advanced to third on a flyout by junior Royce Congi. Senior Andrew Lozano followed with a single to score Ellinger.
The fourth inning saw Blackburn add two more runs. Freshman Andrew Medina walked then got to third thanks to ball hit by senior CJ Brunaugh that resulted in a Monmouth error and a wild pitch. Another wild pitch allowed Medina to score and put Brunaugh on third. Sophomore Joshua Moreno came up next and singled, putting Brunaugh across the plate and put Blackburn ahead 3-0.
However, the Scots answered with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth, taking a 5-3 lead. They were then able to post four runs in the seventh.
BC was able to cut into their deficit in the eighth. Lozano reached base on another Monmouth error before stealing second and getting to third on a ground out. After Medina walked, senior RJ Arredondo hit a sacrifice fly which scored Lozano and made it 9-4.
Unfortunatey the hosts added another in the bottom of the inning and Blackburn was unable to score in the ninth, resulting in the 10-4 final score.
Blackburn will return to action when they head to Fontbonne University for a matchup of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals.
