BATESVILLE, AR -- Blackburn College Baseball visited St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Lyon College Friday afternoon and came away with a 6-3 victory in the first game but fell 12-2 in the nightcap.
Senior Andrew Lozano got the day started by getting hit by a pitch and scored when freshman Andrew Medina singled down the right field line. Lyon answered in the second but BC responded with two runs in the fourth.
Medina and senior RJ Arredondo both singled to get on base. Sophomore Diego Perez was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, and during a pickoff attempt during the next at bat, a throwing error allowed Medina to score. A wild pitch then allowed Arredondo to score and put Blackburn ahead 3-1.
The hosts scored again in the fifth which BC answered in the top of the sixth with an Arredondo home run, his third of the season. The Scots once again responded with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Blackburn held a 4-3 lead heading into the eighth inning and the Beavers extended their advantage with two runs. Sophomore Dominic Medrano doubled and got to third after Arredondo's single. Perez hit a sacrifice fly which scored Medrano and Arredondo scored off a single from junior Royce Congi making the score 6-3. The defense would allow just one runner in the next seven at bats to seal the victory.
Senior Alex Coffman picked up his first win this season while freshman Bailey Kasprowicz recorded the save.
In the nightcap, Lyon managed to score seven runs over the first two innings but the Beavers cut into the lead with a run in the third inning. Junior Harley Carney tripled to open the inning, then Lozano followed with a single to score Carney.
Lyon answered with a run in the fourth inning but in the fifth, Carney walked and scored on Lozano's double to put the score at 8-2. However, the Scots added a run in their fifth and sixth inning, then put two more across in the seventh to get the 12-2 win.
Blackburn returns to action Tuesday when they visit Principia College for another SLIAC doubleheader.
