Men's Basketball falls just short to Asbury

The Blackburn Men's Basketball Team would lead by nine points late in the second half but were unable to put the Eagles away in an 80-78 loss in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon. Blackburn lost the rebound total by 20 and allowed 15 offensive rebounds. Still would play a big role in the Beavers loss.  At 12:19 in the first half, the Beavers would take the lead with two free throws from Javon Stovall 13-11 but that didn't last long. Asbury would lead until the 3:31 mark. Blackburn took the moment they gained and turned the game to a seven-point deficit with a 7-1 run. With 1:45 left in the half, the Beavers would look to be in control. The Eagles would answer back and cut the lead to four points leading into half. In the second half, Blackburn would hold their lead until the ten-minute mark as Ashbury took a 53-52 lead. After grading a few buckets Blackburn had a 61-58 advantage. Over the next four and half minutes Blackburn would be outscored 14-5 to leave the game tied with 36 seconds left. Nick Fort would score with 17 seconds left to give Ashburg a two-point lead. Blackburn would call a timeout with 7.5 left on the clock to draw up a final shot. Jarrius Burnett would shoot a three that would fall short. 

 

Blackburn was led by Stovall carrying the Beavers with 25 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Stovall was efficient from the floor shooting 8 of 11 and 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. Chanz Aldridge followed with 12 points and three artists. Elliot Harrison had a career game off the bench recording a double-double. Scoring ten points and grabbing 12 rebounds. 



Blackburn will open up conference play on January 5th hosting Spalding at 7:30.
