Beavers Win Home Opener Against Monmouth

Blackburn Men’s Basketball won their first home regular season game on Saturday afternoon against Monmouth College. The Beavers defeated the Fighting Scots by a final score of 84-65.

 

1st Half: Blackburn’s Eliot Harrison II started off the afternoon by scoring the first bucket with an emphatic dunk. The Beavers went on their biggest scoring run in this half with an 8-0 run at the 6:02 mark. However, it was a back and forth scoring affair between Blackburn and Monmouth in this half. Ultimately, the Fighting Scots had a three-point lead at the end of the first half, 40-37.

 

2nd Half: Blackburn came out hot as the Beavers outscored the Fighting Scots in this half, 47-25. In the last minutes of the game, the Fighting Scots had two turnovers that gave Blackburn’s Troy Cole Jr. the advantage, which he took. Cole Jr. scored off of the turnovers, securing the first win of the season for the Beavers.

 

Blackburn’s leading scorer was Chanz Aldridge with 20 points, and Troy Cole Jr. followed with 19 points of his own. Tyson Johnson led the Beavers in assists with six, followed by Izayah Talmadge, who finished with three. Eliot Harrison II had a good defensive showing recording three blocks and led the team with thirteen rebounds.

 

The Beavers move to an overall record of 1-1. They will go away to play Knox College on Wednesday, November 16th. That game will start at 7:00 p.m.
