Kueker and White Lead  Blackburn in the Spring Opener

The Blackburn Men's and Women's Golf Team competed in their first match of the spring season in the Illinois College Spring Opener. The match was held in Jacksonville, IL in a two-day tournament on Saturday and Sunday, March 19th and 20th. 



The first day of the two-day tournament was a very brisk day where the wind chill got as low as 30 degrees. The weather played a factor in the tournament as scores were much higher than expected. Senior Thomas White led the Beavers the first day with an 82 while sophomore Alex Kueker would follow with an 85. Blackburn would be rounded out by sophomore Will Downs who would play in his first career match and shoot a very respectable 94. The Beavers would shoot a team score of 347 the first day. 



On the second day of the tournament, the weather would be much better and the Beavers would show it. Blackburn would be led by Kueker who would shave off six strokes from the previous day and shoot a 79. Freshman Conner Dorries would continue to add to his great freshman season with an 80 and White would put up another solid round of 81. Blackburn's fourth score would be freshman Justin Atkinson who would also be playing in his first career match and shoot a solid 94. Blackburn would shoot 13 strokes better the second day with a 334.



The Beavers would bring an individual to compete on both the men's and women's teams. Sophomore Shane Greathouse would be the third golfer to compete in his first collegiate match for Blackburn. Greathouse would hold his own very well and shoot a 95 on Sunday. Juinor Tess Saathoff would also compete as an individual and shoot a 98 on the second day of the Spring Opener. 



Blackburn's next match will be held in Louisville, Kentucky at the Polo Fields Country Club on Friday, March 25th.
