Blackburn Set to Battle Fontbonne University in Conference Tournament

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team is set to host Fontbonne University on Tuesday at 3:00 P.M.  This is the first time the Beavers have hosted a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament match.  The teams split their matches this season with the Beavers claiming the first matchup 1-0 in Carlinville and Fontbonne winning 4-3 in St. Louis.

Being at home should be an advantage for the Beavers as they have a 7-2 home record this season with the two losses by just one goal each time. "We're playing well right now and it's tough to beat us at home.  I expect a physical and exciting match.   Our guys are ready to compete!" said Blackburn Head Coach Rob Steinkuehler.

Blackburn is 12-8 on the season which ties the school record for victories in a season.

"We couldn't be happier for our guys.  Tying the school record for wins and finishing in 4th (highest finish since 2003) is a big step for our program.  This is an exciting group to watch and we look forward to performing well in the conference tournament," added Steinkuehler.

Blackburn is an extremely youthful squad as senior Prince Balaba is the only senior on the roster.  The youth has certainly been outstanding at times as freshman forward Zibo Siamsipa leads the nation in assists with 14.  Siamsipa, from Garland, Texas has also added eleven goals which makes him the only player in the conference to be in double digits in goals and assists.  Sophomore Hayden Reese from Waterloo, Illinois is second in the conference in assists with nine.  Junior goalkeeper, Dawson Klunk, the reigning defensive player of the week, is second in the league in shot percentage.

The conference will charge admission to the contest. It is $5 for adults, $3 for students 16 and under, and $2 for college students with I.D.
