Men's Soccer Loses a Heartbreaker

Blackburn Men's Soccer was defeated by Illinois college by the score of 2-1. The game was played on a beautiful Friday late afternoon in Carlinville. The Blueboys outshot Blackburn 29 to 13. Illinois College scored the winning goal in the waning minute. 

 

Blackburn took an early lead in the eighth minute as sophomore Hayden Reese scored his first goal of the season. Freshman Zibo Siamsipa was credited with the assist. The Blueboys out-shot the Beavers ten to eight in the first half. Junior Dawson Klunk was credited with five saves in the first half.

 

In the second half Illinois College turned up the intensity as they outshot Blackburn 19 to five in the second half. The Blueboys possessed the ball most of the second half which lead to two goals. Tyler Schiltz tied the game in the 68th minute. Tiernan Freiberger with the pass to get up the tying score. In the last 20 minutes, Illinois College continued to pour on the pressure and was finally able to deliver in the last 15 seconds. With 24 seconds left, Nick High took a shot that bounced off the crossbar which led to the game-winning goal by Thomas Minke which was assisted by Paul Adams. 

 

Dawson Klunk had a strong performance with 10 saves and allowing two goals. The Blue Boys were credited with four saves between their two goalies. 

 

Blackburn falls to 2-3 on the season as Illinois College improves to 2-2. 

 

Blackburn will open up the conference schedule hosting Eureka College Wednesday, September 15th at 1:00 P.M.
