Beavers Settle With Tie Against Eureka

Blackburn Men’s soccer played against their conference foes, the Eureka Red Devils on a cloudy Wednesday afternoon. The Beavers ended up tying the Red Devils, 1-1.

In the first half, it was a tightly contested game as both the Beavers and the Red Devils were trading shots at each other but couldn’t convert. At halftime nobody had scored, as the game was 0-0.

In the first half, the Red Devils had four shots at goal compared to Blackburn's seven.

In the second half, both teams were evenly matched up again getting opportunities to score. Yet, it was not until the last ten minutes that the game started to open. At the 83:30 mark, Blackburn got a penalty kick off a handball in the box. Blackburn’s Hayden Reese took the penalty by putting it into the bottom right corner of the goal, making the score 1-0, in favor of the Beavers.

Yet, it only took Eureka about five minutes to even up the score. At the 88:34 mark, on a fastbreak, Eureka’s Khalil Alleyne threaded a good pass to teammate Jacob Russow, which he nailed to the corner of the net that was impossible for Blackburn’s Luke Stieb to save, making the game even, 1-1.

In the last two minutes, both teams were rushing to break the tie, but there wasn’t enough time, and the game ended as a draw, 1-1.

Blackburn ended up having more shots compared to Eureka at the end of the game, as they shot 14 times on target compared to the Red Devils, with ten shots on target. Blackburn’s Romeo Godinez, Hayden Reese, and Luke Atkinson took most of the shots as they all had three shots. Jaime Pineda had two shots and the remaining shots were taken by Michael Rodriguez, Alex Roach, and Noah Kimpel as they individually had 1 shot each.

Blackburn’s Goalkeeper, Luke Stieb helped his team keep an even score with his 4 saves throughout the game.

The Beavers now sit at an overall record of 4-6-4 (1-4-4 in SLIAC play) and will be getting ready to travel to Elsah, Illinois to play another conference game against Principia College on Saturday, October 15th at 3 p.m.
