Beavers Mount 2nd Half Comeback Over Finlandia

Blackburn Men’s soccer played their fourth game of the 2022 season against the Finlandia Lions on a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon. The Beavers won by a narrow margin against the Lions with a score of 2-1

In the first half, Finlandia scored a goal off a freekick by Kevin Amaro. It was impossible for Beavers Goalkeeper Aidan Hamerlinck to save the shot, as Amaro placed it perfectly in the corner of the goal.

After that, neither the Beavers nor the Lions could find the net, and the game went to halftime with Finlandia up by a score of 1-0.

In the second half, the Beavers returned determined to mount the comeback. At the 66:39 mark of the game, Blackburn’s Romeo Godinez passed a great ball off a corner kick to his teammate Grant Halley who redirected the pass into the goal, tying the game.

Twelve minutes later at the 78:12 mark, on a fastbreak, Blackburn’s Alex Roach gave a great forward pass to Dylan Klunk, which he nailed to the back of the net, giving the Beavers the lead with a score of 2-1.

From there on out, the Beavers defended well to sustain the comeback and come out with the win.

Blackburn had fewer shots than Finlandia, with the Beavers having only seven compared to the Lions 23. Yet Blackburn had more shots on goal with three compared to Finlandia’s one, resulting in a Beavers victory.

The Beavers now sit at an overall record of 3-1. They will start their SLIAC conference play as they travel on Tuesday, September 13th to play against Eureka College. That game will begin at 5 p.m.
