Beavers Tie Fontbonne in Intense Conference Match

Blackburn Men's soccer tied another SLIAC match on Wednesday afternoon. After a 0-0 tie with Spalding last week, the Beavers hosted Fontbonne University this week, and tied with the Griffins by a final score of 1-1.

The Beavers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Freshman forward Joyce Kabesa took a pass from Dylan Klunk and shot the ball just past the outstretched arms of Fontbonne goalkeeper Dominic Haggard to take the lead at the 17:47 mark. Following this goal, virtually no offense was created by either team. Both the Griffins and the Beavers were struggling to break through each other's defenses.

At halftime, the Beavers led 1-0. They maintained this lead throughout the majority of the second half, however, the Griffins tied the game at the 74:28 mark. Joe Noah was awarded a free kick due to a handball from the Beavers, and was able to notch the ball through the defense and into the net.

Despite allowing a goal, freshman goalkeeper Aidan Hamerlinck played a remarkable game. He totaled three saves, with each save being absolutely crucial to Blackburn's defensive effort.

Blackburn moves to an overall record of 3-3-3, and 0-2-3 in the SLIAC. The Beavers hope to obtain their first conference win this Saturday, when they travel to Greenville University to take on the Panthers. The game is set to kickoff at 5:00 p.m.
