Blackburn Soccer Broadcasted on ESPN+

On Tuesday evening, Blackburn College Men’s soccer played a match against Saint Louis University. For the first time in the soccer program’s history, the match was broadcasted and televised on ESPN+. The Beavers suffered a loss by a final score of 9-1 against the NCAA D1 team.

A member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Billikens of Saint Louis University hosted the Beavers for a regular season match that kicked off at 7:00 p.m. Despite the final score, the Beavers played a hard-fought match against the Billikens.

It took Saint Louis 18 minutes to finally find the net after several shots against the Beavers. Freshman goalkeeper Luke Stieb was challenged with 17 shots on goal during the match, of which he saved eight.

Despite being down by seven goals at halftime, the Beavers managed to score a goal against the D1 program in the second half. Jamie Jose Pineda scored the solo goal for the Beavers on a free kick at the 48:31 mark.

Head coach Josh Oswald commented on the boys’ performance following the game.

“I thought our guys played hard and played together. We held SLU for 20 minutes from finding the net and had them frustrated to start the match. It was a great experience for the fellas!”

Blackburn will turn around and play their next match tomorrow against SLIAC conference rival Eureka College. The Beavers will host the Red Devils with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m.
