Beavers Tie With Golden Eagles

Beavers Tie With Golden Eagles

Blackburn Men’s soccer faced off against SLIAC conference foe, the Spalding Golden Eagles on a sunny Saturday  afternoon. The Beavers played a good game, but could not pull off the victory as they tied against the Golden Eagles by the score of 1-1.

In the first half, Blackburn and Spalding were neck to neck with each other. Both teams were finding opportunities to score, but they could not find the back of the goal going into halftime scoreless, 0-0.

In the second half, Spalding opened up the scoring with a penalty at the 63:58 minute. Spalding’s own Caleb Jackson scored the goal by placing it at the top right corner where it was impossible for Blackburn’s Aidan Hamerlinck to save, making the score 1-0 in favor of Spalding.

Nine minutes later at the 72:31 mark, on a fastbreak, Blackburn’s Luke Atkinson placed a good ball to his teammate Romeo Godinez, which he kicked into the right corner of the goal, to even up the score, 1-1.

From there on out, the Beavers and Golden Eagles were trading shots like in the first half without success, leading for both teams to come out of it with a draw.

Blackburn’s Aidan Hamerlinck had a great impact in keeping the Beavers in this game, as he finished with 7 saves, 5 in the first half and 2 in the second half.

The Beavers now sit at an overall record of 3-2-1. Their next game will be away against another conference rival, the Webster Gorloks on Wednesday, September 21st. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
