Late Scoring Leads Gorloks to Win Over Beavers on Senior Day

The Beavers kicked off against Webster today at 3:00 p.m. After an intense first half and a late scoring run by the Gorloks, the Beavers would fall 3-0 in their last game of the season.

It was senior day for the Beavers, and Blackburn celebrated Michael Rodriguez before the start of the game. Michael is a defender and had a solid game against the Gorloks. He has put in countless hours to improving his game, and after he graduates he plans to go to Guatemala and tryout for their pro soccer team. Coach Oswald gave his regards to Mike following the senior day presentation.

“Mikey has been a great defender for us at Blackburn. He is an outstanding player and we look forward to seeing where his next step in life takes him!”, said Oswald.

The Gorloks came out hot, scoring at the eleventh minute mark. Luke Stieb, goalkeeper for the Beavers, would hold them off after that, keeping them scoreless for the rest of the first half, including five saves. Jamie Pineda, Hayden Reese, Joyce Kabesa, and Luke Atkinson all had a shot on goal the first half.

Hayden Reese would have two close shots on goal in the second half. Reese led the Beavers with three shots, followed by Shane Greathouse, Hayden Fox, and Niyidukunda Placide, who all had one shot on goal in the second half. The second half was much closer than the first, with both teams playing exceptional defense against each other. Despite the handful of shots that the Beavers were able to take against Webster, the Gorloks held them scoreless. The score remained 1-0 until the 74-minute mark, when Marco Donjuan for the Gorloks would score back to back goals, sealing the game for Webster.

The Beavers finished their season with a record of 4-10-5. With only one senior leaving the team, the Beavers will be ready to get back into action next season.
