Long Free Kick Goal Gives Blackburn the Home Opener Victory

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team opened their 2023 campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Rockford University Regents on Friday afternoon in Carlinville.  First-year Beaver Jacob Sauvage nailed a free kick from midfield at the 11:46 mark of the first half for the only scoring of the match.  Much of the match was played in the middle of the pitch as there were limited scoring opportunities for either team.  Dawson Klunk was credited with the win in goal as he stopped the three shots against him.  The Beavers only mustered one other shot on goal in the match as each team struggled to line up attacks on the goal.

Rockford out-shot the Beavers 13-8 while Blackburn led in corner kicks 7-5. The match was cleanly played as no cards were issued.  This marks the second consecutive season the Beavers have won their season-opener.  The Beavers return to action with a match at Millikin University on September 6.
