Beavers take a rough loss against the Eutectics

The Blackburn Men’s Soccer team played their fifth game of the 2023 season against the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Eutectics on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. The Beavers unfortunately lost against the Eutectics with a final score of 5-2.

 

In the first half, Blackburn started strong as at the 10:52 mark, Luke Atkinson sent in a great cross that Shane Greathouse took advantage of and headed in for the score, 1-0. The University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy did not take long to respond as at the 19:02 mark of the game, Eutectic's own Jacob Woodward scored a goal off a deflection of a Blackburn player, to even up the score, 1-1. Then not after, Eutectics Alvaro Montijano received a good ball from his defenders, in which he dribbled and kicked the ball into the bottom left corner, impossible for Beavers Goalkeeper Dawson Klunk to save the shot, to give USHP the lead, 2-1. At the 35:05 minute, the Eutectics would add to their lead as Jacob Woodward scored his second goal of the afternoon and it took the game to halftime with the score of 3-1.

 

In the second half, Blackburn started on the wrong foot as Nicholas Vaughn tried to deflect out a ball but unfortunately, it was headed into their net, helping the Univerisity of Health Sciences & Pharmacy create a comfortable lead of 4-1. 

 

Blackburn still kept on fighting and a few seconds after going down three goals, Shane Greathouse placed a great ball onto the back of Eutectics Goalkeeper Jack Wolfe's net to cut the lead down to two, making the score, 4-2. Yet, the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy regained their lead of three, when at the 54:42 mark Alvaro Montijano scored for the second time in the game when he received a cross from Grant Woodard and headed into the net. That goal led eventually to the end score of the afternoon, 5-2, in favor of the Eutectics.

 

The University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy ended up taking a total of 22 shots, compared to Blackburn who only took 11 shots in the entirety of the game. Blackburn Goalkeeper  Dawson Klunk had 7 saves for the game, which were crucial for the Beavers throughout the match. 

 

The Beavers now sit at an overall record of 1-3-1. They will go on the road to play on Saturday, September 16th against Harris Stowe. The start time for that game is at 3:30 p.m
