CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn Men's Soccer scored first but Buena Vista University was able to score two second half goals to capture the inaugural Battle of the Beavers Memorial Cup.
BC got onto the board first. Freshman Johnny Perla took a shot 20 minutes into the game that forced the BVU goalkeeper to make a diving save that bounced right to senior Shane Greathouse. Greathouse fired the ball into the net to put Blackburn ahead 1-0 which held into halftime.
The BVU offense answered early into the second half to tie the match, then were able to score the game-winner with just over five minutes left to capture the 2-1 win. BC would outshoot the visitors 12-8 on the day.
Blackburn falls to 1-4-2 on the season while Buena Vista leaves at 5-1. BC returns to action Tuesday with a visit to Kentucky to take on Asbury University.
