EUREKA, IL -- Blackburn College Men's Soccer visited Eureka College Wednesday evening for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup and came away with a 2-2 tie with the Red Devils.
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first in the 29th minute when freshman Cristian Cazares scored his third goal of the season. Freshman Johnny Perla took a free kick that hit the crossbar. It then bounced right to Cazares who put it into the bottom right corner of the net.
A couple minutes later Eureka tied it but Blackburn soon answered to take a 2-1 lead into the half. The Red Devils were on the attack but a BC defender was able to clear the ball out of harms way. Cazares was able to get the ball ahead of the last line of the Eureka defense just over midfield. He then raced up the field before making a move past the Red Devil goalkeeper and put the ball right into the middle of the net for his second of the game and fourth of the season.
However, Eureka managed to tie the game in the second half, scoring in the 64th minutes, ending the game with a 2-2 tie.
In the game, Cazares and freshman Brayden Smith both tallied a team-high four shots. Perla added three. In goal, senior Dawson Klunk posted a season-best eight saves.
Unfortunately for the Beavers, the season comes to an end due to Fontbonne University pulling off an upset victory at Spalding University to keep Fontbonne ahead of Blackburn in the SLIAC standings for a SLIAC Tournament berth.
