Quentin Smith Named Men's Cross Country Team Captain

Al Sturgeon, new head coach of the Blackburn Men’s Cross Country team, has named Quentin Smith team captain for the 2022 season. Coach Sturgeon said, “It is no surprise to anyone familiar with the program that Quentin is tapped to be our leader. He has been and will continue to be the leader of the men’s team heading into his senior season.”

Coach Sturgeon added, “Quentin is a leader on campus outside of his sport, currently serving as the RD (“Resident Director”) of Stoddard Hall. Quentin leads by example and has both an easygoing personality and fun sense of humor. I believe that his leadership in the year to come will be an important component of our efforts to take this program to a new level.”

Quentin is a junior from Sherman, Illinois (Williamsville High School), majoring in secondary education with a history/social studies emphasis. His dream job is to teach history and coach cross country at his own high school. Quentin’s hobby is shooting, and his top bucket list item is to move to Montana or Wyoming with “a great view to look at with almost no one for miles.”

When asked why he chose Blackburn College, Quentin said, “I chose Blackburn because I wanted to go to a small school where I felt like I would matter, and I wanted to run cross country in college fairly close to my home.”
