Zoe Mitchell, Taylor Girth Earn SLIAC Player of the Week Honors

BELLEVILLE, IL -- Sophomore Zoe Mitchell and senior Taylor Girth were honored by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after standout performances last week. 

Mitchell was named the SLIAC Hitter of the Week after hitting .500 in seven games. The sophomore finished with 12 hits in 24 at bats and notched a double and a triple while scoring 11 runs. She also added six runs batted in and a stolen base. In the team's first win over Monmouth College, Mitchell went 4-5 and scored four runs.

Girth led the way by going 3-0 on the week while throwing 27 strikeouts in 17 innings. The senior allowed just three runs and finished the week with a 1.24 earned run against average. Against Harris Stowe University, Girth threw a career-high 10 strikeouts, then followed with nine against Marantha Baptist University and eight at Monmouth. 

The Beavers finished the week 8-0 as they posted sweeps over Harris Stowe, two sweeps of Maranatha Baptist and a sweep over Monmouth. The team went 25 straight innings of shutout play as they didn't allow a run for five straight games. Overall, Blackburn outscored their opponents 99-17 during the week.

Blackburn started the week with a 5-2, 20-0 win over Harris Stowe on Wednesday then continued their hot streak to Friday with 16-0 and 15-0 wins that extended to 8-0 and 14-0 wins on Saturday. In Sunday's first game at Monmouth, BC forced extra innings with a run in the top of the sixth and then held on to win 13-12 before taking an 8-3 win in the nightcap.
