GREENVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College visited Greenville University in a single St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup but a big second inning from the Panthers proved too much to overcome as the Beavers fell 6-2.
Greenville took the lead in the second inning with six runs but Blackburn attempted to answer in their third. Freshman Kenadee Frey got things started with a walk then advanced to second on a ball hit by freshman Kailynn Kruep. A wild pitch helped Frey advance to third and she scored on a passed ball making it 6-1.
The Beavers attempted to narrow the gap even more as Kruep opened the sixth inning with a double. Sophomore Breana Allen soon followed and also doubled to score Kruep. Unfortunately it would be the only run for the Beavers as they would fall 6-2.
With the loss, Blackburn falls to 17-19 on the season and 6-8 in the SLIAC whlie Greenville improves to 27-7 and 8-4 in the league. The Beavers will return to action Saturday to host Webster University in another SLIAC matchup. During the doubleheader the team will also honor their seniors.
