Blackburn Splits Final Day of Spring Break Trip
CLERMONT, FL -- Blackburn College Softball defeated Plymouth State 2-1 but fell to Macalester on the final day of their Spring Break trip.

CLERMONT, FL -- Blackburn College Softball finished their spring break trip by splitting their two games. The team opened the day with a 2-1 victory over Plymouth State University but followed by falling to Macalaster College 12-4.
Junior Caroline Gibson and Sierra Hiser both posted three hits for the Beavers. Hiser also added two runs batted in. Sophomore Kenadee Frey added two home runs with three RBI's. Senior Julianna Tabian and sophomore Kailynn Kruep both chipped in with two hits as well.
Senior Shelby Koenig threw four strikeouts in a complete game victory over PSU.
Frey put Blackburn ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning against Plymouth State with her fourth home run this year. The sixth saw BC extend their lead. Kruep got on base then stole second. Hiser soon followed with a single to score Kruep, putting the Beavers up 2-0. PSU managed to score a run in the top of the seventh but the Blackburn defense held strong to hold on to a 2-1 victory.
Against Macalester, the Beavers struck first when junior Breana Allen scored on a ball hit by junior Zoe Mitchell. Macalester scored twice in the first, but BC answered to tie it in their second inning. Koenig pinched ran for freshman Mailee Schoen after Schoen was hit by a pitch. The bases were soon loaded and a Hiser walk allowed Koenig to score making it 2-2. However, Macalster added four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Mitchell opened the third inning with a single before Frey knocked her fifth homer of the season to make it 6-4. Unfortunately, the Blackburn offense was unable to cross the plate again as the team would eventually fall 12-4.
The Beavers now will return to campus and prepare for back to back doubleheaders with nonconference foe Maranatha Baptist University on March 28 and 29.
