CARLINVILLE, IL -- The Blackburn College Softball team honored five seniors during their doubleheader against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Greenville College.
Seniors Shelby Koenig, Grace Mackey, Miley Kwiatkowski, Jessie Cirrincione, and Julianna Tabian were celebrated for all of their contributions to the program. The group has helped guide the team two back-to-back SLIAC Tournament appearances.
During the opener, the Panthers struck first with a run in the first inning. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when Blackburn took a lead. Tabian and sophomore Kenadee Frey both singled before a double from Zoe Mitchell scored the runners. She then scored on an error from Greenville to give BC the 3-1 lead. Unfortunately, the guests answered with three runs in the top of the seventh and Blackburn was unable to respond, giving GC a 4-3 win.
The Panthers would also take the nightcap 4-0.
Koenig tallied seven strikeouts in the first game, moving her total to 128 this season. She holds what is believed to be the school record.
Despite the loss, the team's season will continue with a SLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal appearance Tuesday when they head to Fontbonne University.
