Beavers Fall to Gorloks at Home

Blackburn Women's Basketball Team lost a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Webster University Saturday afternoon in Carlinville. Webster extended their lead late in the game to secure the win by a final score of 99-68.

 

Webster played great defense, as they forced 32 turnovers. These turnovers led to 45 points for the Gorloks.

 

Webster caused four early turnovers which helped spark a twelve to three run to start the game. Jenna Dudra scored a lay-up to cut the lead to seven, but the Beavers could not cut into the lead anymore. The Gorloks largest lead of the quarter was 19. At the end of one quarter the Webster lead was 28 to 15.

 

In the second quarter the Beavers outscored Webster 28 to 23. The Gorloks extended their lead to 17 points with 7:49 left in the quarter. Then Blackburn went on a nine to zero run to cut the lead to nine points with 4:31. Going into halftime the lead was just eight for Webster 51 to 43. Savannah Kruse led Blackburn with eleven points. Shooting five of six from the floor. Dudra followed with eight points, shooting four of six from the floor.

 

In the third quarter Webster displayed good defense forcing the Beavers into nine turnovers. This helped them extend their lead by eight points. Julie Baudendistel led Webster with nine points, shooting four of five from the floor. Jaysea Morgan followed with seven points, shooting four of four from the free throw line. The Beavers were led by Lexi Black, as she scored eight points.

 

The fourth quarter the Beavers were held to just eight points and 30 percent from the floor. This helped the Gorloks outscore Blackburn 23 to eight. Taylor Zarr led Webster with six points, shooting three of four from the floor.

 

Kruse finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Dudra recorded 15 points, shooting seven of eleven from the field. Callista Francis scored 14 points, shooting six of seven from the floor, and grabbed 14 rebounds.

 

The Gorloks were led by Baudendistel, as she scored scored a game high 27 points, shooting twelve of 15 from the floor. Morgan scored 24 points, shooting eight of twelve from the field.

 

Blackburn falls to 5-17 (SLIAC 3-13) and Webster improves to 15-7 (SLIAC 13-2). The Beavers will be back in action this upcoming Wednesday for senior night against Greenville at 5:30 P.M.
