Women's Basketball unable to contain Greenville

Blackburn Women's Basketball was defeated by Greenville on March 3rd, by the score of 78 to 67. The Panthers sweep the season series defeating the Beavers twice. 

 

The Beavers were in the lead for most of the game. Greenville did not tie the game until the 2:22 mark in the third quarter. With 1:17 left in the third Blackburn found themselves down for the first time. Blackburn would regain the lead once in the fourth quarter, but Greenville would outscore Blackburn by nine. 

 

Blackburn started the game on a 11 to six run to gain an early lead. Aryanna Harris would spark the early run for the Beavers hitting two three pointers and assisting on a basket accounting for eight of the eleven points. The Panthers would claw their way back and cut the lead to three with 1:34 left. Harris would score another layup to extend the lead to five. The score at the end of one quarter 18 to 13 Blackburn. Harris would account for ten of the Beavers 18 points.

 

The Second quarter Blackburn would lead throughout. Both teams played evenly as they each scored 14 points. Greenville would cut the lead to just two with 4:43 left. Blackburn would then go on a five to zero run to extend their lead. After a few baskets between each team the score at half was 32 to 27 Blackburn.

 

Blackburn outshot Greenville from the floor and from behind the arc in the first half. 38 percent to Greenvilles 33 percent from the floor. From three Blackburn shot 27 percent and the Panthers shot 18 percent. Harris led the Beavers with 13 points in the first half. Greenville was led by Amanda Brooks as she scored seven points off the bench and six in the second quarter. 

 

In the third quarter Blackburn would lead most of the way. With their biggest lead eight with 7:34 left in the quarter. The Panthers would go on a ten to three run over the next five minutes to cut the lead to just one. Emily Reinneck would hit two free throws to tie the game with 2:22 left. Harris would connect on two foul shots of her own to give Blackburn a two-point advantage. With a 1:17 left Brooks would swipe a steal leading to an and one by Lauren Eagleson to give Geenville their first lead. The score went into the fourth quarter Greenville leading 50 to 48. 

 

There was plenty of offense in the fourth quarter as both teams combined for 47 points. Courtnee Riley was determined to win as she scored six points, grabbed two rebounds and dished out an assist all in the fourth quarter. Hanna Box also had six points connecting on two three pointers. With 9:32 left Harris would hit a three to give Blackburn the lead. That would be the only lead that the Beavers would see in the fourth quarter. In the last nine minutes of the game Greenville would outscore Blackburn 27 to 17. Greenville was on fire shooting 77 percent from the floor and 75 from three.

Harris has been hot recently averaging 21 points, six rebounds, and 5 assists over the last three games.
