Blackburn College has named Jasmine Shelt as the new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. Shelt attended Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. During her high school career, she played in 64 games as a varsity player for three seasons. She scored a total of 583 points, scoring 93 three point field goals, grabbing 234 rebounds, and attained 69 steals. During her senior and junior seasons, she was named to the MIC Winter All-Conference team. She was also the Female Athlete of the Year during her senior season and was also ranked the top 60th player in the state during her senior season.

After high school, Shelt committed to Kentucky Wesleyan University to continue her basketball career. She played three seasons before the coaching staff and Shelt agreed she should be a student assistant. She played in 79 games, scoring 318 points and grabbing 183 rebounds. Shelt graduated in 2020 with a degree in psychology.

Shelt started her coaching career during the summer of her sophomore year of college. She coached the Indy Gym Rats AAU team for one season. She then decided her senior year of college that it would be best if she was to remain only part of the coaching staff.

Shelt credits her opportunity to coach during her senior year of college as the reason she wants to continue her coaching career at Blackburn College. She expressed, “I will be forever grateful for the opportunity.”

When asked why she loves to coach, she expressed that now that her playing career is over, she wants to give back to youth basketball, all the way up to her current age, just helping people grow their love for the game.
