From Athlete to Coach

From Athlete to Coach

Mackenzie Adams will be returning to the Blackburn Women's basketball program, but not as a player. Adams committed to Blackburn College after graduating from Potosi High School in 2018. Mackenzie played in 88 total games and scored 807 career points.

At the start of her freshman season at Blackburn, Adams suffered an injury during the second week of practice and she was sidelined for the whole season. She then decided that it would be easier to rehabilitate her injury closer to home and chose to leave Blackburn. After rehabilitation, she strived to play basketball again at a college closer to home, but she was once again injured and unable to play.

During her time away, Mackenzie began coaching AAU girls basketball as well as starting a skill development training company, Triple B Performance Training. It was there when she discovered her passion for wanting to coach women’s basketball.

Now Adams is back for her Junior year and decided that her playing days are over and coaching would be the best opportunity for her future. Adams stated, “The Blackburn experience has been great and she wants to coach from this point on.” Adams also believes that she will learn a great deal from being a part of Coach Morgan’s Women’s Basketball staff.

Adams collegiate career was taken away from her because of multiple injuries, yet she still has a love for the game and has been given a great opportunity to do something she is passionate about. Adams expressed, “Coaching is something that she wants to do the rest of her life.”
