Women's Basketball falls to McKendree

The Blackburn Women's Basketball fell to Mckendree University by the score of 90 to 71. The game took place in Lebanon at the Melvin Price Convocation Center Tuesday, November 23rd. 

 

The game was very close in the first half with the Bearcats only leading by five. Mckendree would open up the second half with a 16-0 run to open up the game. This would essentially put the game away.

 

Blackburn came out on fire with Madison Duncan connecting on two three-pointers. This started a 14-4 run. The Bearcats would battle back and answer with their own 18-6 run to finish the quarter. The Beavers were down 22 to 20 headed to the second quarter. Duncan Led the Beavers with nine points hitting three shots from beyond the arch.  In the second the Bearcats would start the quarter with a mini 5-0 run to increase the lead to seven. The Beavers would go on their own 11-4 run to retake the advantage. After a few Blackburn turnovers, Mckendree would make them pay and take a five lead headed to half. 

 

The Bearcats would come out with the energy that led to a 16-0 run to give them a 21 point lead with six minutes left in the third. Christy Fortune would put the team on her back. She scored ten points, causing a few Beaver turnovers, and was credited with two assists. Mckendree was up 70 to 53 with just ten minutes left to play.

 

Blackburn would continue to fight but was only to cut the deficit to just 13 two different times. Fortune would continue to be a problem as she would hit four three-pointers to help Mckendree pull away in the fourth.

Blackburn falls to 1-6 in the early season. They will lace up again on December 10th traveling to St. Francis (Ind.). The tip-off will be at 6 P.M.
