Women's Basketball dominates Mount Mary

The Blackburn Women's Basketball team defeated Mount Mary by a score of 70 to 37. The game took place Saturday, December 18th in Carlinville.



Blackburn dominated the entire game leading for almost 48 minutes and only allowing 37 points. The Beavers applied pressure throughout the game causing 28 turnovers. 

 

First Half:

 

The game started with both teams exchanging baskets before Blackburn took over. The Beavers went on a 32-0 run to open the game. The Beavers outscore Mount Mary 21-4 in the first quarter. The second quarter was almost identical as Blackburn scored 19 to Mount Mary's six points. With 4:06 left in the second quarter, Mount Mary would hit a free throw to score their first point since the eight-minute mark in the first quarter. The Blue Angels went almost 16 minutes without a field goal. Blackburn leads 40-10 at halftime.

 

In the first half, the Beavers caused 18 turnovers and held the Blue Angels to 18% from the field. 



Second Half:

 

The Blue Angels played much better scoring 27 points in the half. That still was not enough as the Beavers scored 30 in the final two quarters. Blackburn opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to bring the lead to 37. Blackburn caused another six turnovers in the third. The lead heading into the fourth was 33. The fourth quarter was even as both teams scored 13 points. Blackburn gained their biggest lead of 38 with 8:45 left in the fourth quarter.
