Beavers Take Tough Loss Against Prairie Stars

Blackburn Women’s basketball lost a regular season game on Friday evening to Knox College. The Prairie Stars of Knox College won the game by a final score of 87-42.

1st Quarter: Mariah Hopson opened the scoring with 9:10 left in the 1st quarter, draining a three-pointer off a beautiful pass from Aryana Harris to give Blackburn a 3-0 lead. Knox answered by scoring a layup soon after, and before long the score was tied at eight. After a turnover, Knox took a 10-8 lead, but Blackburn responded by tying the game at ten, thanks to a jump shot from Jaylin Nesbitt.

Knox went on a thirteen-point scoring run following this shot and ended the first quarter leading the Beavers 23-10.

2nd Quarter: Blackburn was unable to amount to any offense, while Knox was knocking down shots left and right. Elizabeth Morris ended a 19-point scoring run by the Prairie Stars when she scored with 7:21 left in the second.

Turnovers for both teams caused a scoring drought through the second. The Beavers went into halftime trailing 47-14.

3rd Quarter: Similar to the second quarter, Blackburn was unable to generate any offense, with turnovers disrupting their attempts. Knox continued to lay the pressure on Blackburn, and halfway through the third quarter, the score was 63-18. It was not until the fourth quarter that Blackburn was able to put together a handful of shots to score points.

4th Quarter: Trailing 70-24 at the start of the fourth, the Beavers were able to score 24 points in the fourth. Juliette Adlawan scored a three-pointer with 5:14 left in the game, followed by a nice layup from Mariah Hopson minutes later. The score was 84-36 with 3:10 left, with Hopson draining another three for the Beavers. The Prairie Stars closed out the game by maintaining possession, however, and won the game.

The Beavers move to an overall record of 1-1. They will have a week to rest and recover before their next game, which will be against William Jewell. The Beavers will be on the road for the game, which is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18th.
