Beavers Defeat SaberCats in Season Opener

The Blackburn College Women’s Basketball team won their first regular season game on Tuesday evening. The Beavers hosted the SaberCats of Maranatha Baptist University, and won the game by a final score of 65-31.

 

Following a slow start where the Beavers were trailing 6-0, but Aryana Harris scored the first points for the Beavers after a foul from Maranatha. Harris was tied with her teammate, Mariah Hopson, for the team lead in points. Both Hopson and Harris finished with 14 points in the contest, allowing for the Beavers to extend their lead late into the first quarter.

Hopson was 6-13 on field goals, and 2-6 on free throws. She had six total rebounds in the game, along with two steals and an assist.

 

Harris was 6-8 on field goals, and 2-4 on free throws. She was able to collect four rebounds, with six assists and four steals.

 

The Beavers went on their longest scoring run in the second quarter, when they led by 14 points heading towards halftime. They only continued to lay the pressure on the SaberCats in the second half.

 

The Beavers had their largest lead of the night late in the fourth quarter, when they led by 35 points. The performance put on by the Beavers was remarkable.

 

Other notables for the Beavers included Elizabeth Morris, who scored nine points off the bench. She was 4-8 on field goals, and 1-4 from the three-point line. Juliette Adlawan finished with seven points, while Sarah Olson had six points.

 

The Beavers move to an overall record of 1-0, and their next match will be on Friday, November 11th. The Beavers will host Knox College, and tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
