Blackburn Women's Basketball falls to Eureka in SLIAC Opener

CARLINVILLE, IL- Blackburn College Women's Basketball faced off in their first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game of the season against Eureka College. The Beavers would fall against the Red Devils to the score of 56-71

Freshman Kailynn Kruep led the Beavers with 14 points. Followed by Ashanti Jones with 10 points and 2 steals. Sophomore Caidy Tuetkan had 9 points, 2 assits and 4 rebounds. Kruep also led the Beavers in assists and rebounds with 4 assits and 7 rebounds. 

Both teams started out strong as they ended the first quarter 19-19. Blackburn College started the game by a layup by Caidy Tuetakn. Gracie Jent gets BC their first three of the game, putting the Beavers on top 15-12 with 2:20 to go in the first quarter. Ashanti Jones wraps up scoring for the Beavers in the first quarter with a layup. Blackburn came out of the locker room ready to fight back after the half, the third quarter ended with a 15-12 score run favoring the Red Devils, but that did not stop the Beavers. The Beavers fought hard in the fourth quarter winning 21-17. BC was led by Kailynn Kruep who had 7 points in the quarter. Despite Blackburn's best efforts, the Red Devils would win, 56-71.

 

Blackburn drops to a 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the Conference, they look to bounce back on Tuesday against SLIAC rival Spalding University at 5:30 PM in Louisville, KY.
