CARLINVILLE, IL– The Blackburn Women's Basketball team had their home opener Wednesday night against non-conference opponent Hannibal-LaGrange University
The Beavers would play a hard-fought game against the Trojans just falling short 60-47.
Miley Kwiatkowski and Caidy Tuetken stepped up big time for the Beavers offensively, having 17 points each. Caidy Tuetken recorded a double-double for the night with 17 points and 14 rebounds, she also had 2 steals on the night. Miley Kwiatkowski would record 2 steals as well, along with 5 rebounds.
The first half was close, with both teams going bucket for bucket. The Trojans would outscore the Beavers 13-12 and in the second quarter, both teams scored 11. Tuetken spearheaded the offense in the first half putting up 11 first-half points. Tuetken would get into foul trouble in the third quarter however, and Kwiatkowski would step up for the team scoring 11 second-half points. Tuetken and Kwiatkowski would battle the whole game to keep the Beavers in it. The Beavers would go down 8 in the fourth quarter and were unable to come back. After some late fourth-quarter fouling in efforts to come back, the Trojans would hit crucial free throws to seal the game with a final score of 60-47.
Blackburn returns to action on Wednesday, November 19th, where they take a trip on the road to take on Maranatha Baptist University.
