Women's Basketball Drops Close Contest at Fontbonne
CARLINVILLE, IL -- The Blackburn Women’s Basketball team traveled to Fontbonne University on Wednesday afternoon. The Beavers fell to the Griffins, 63-56.
CARLINVILLE, IL -- The Blackburn Women's Basketball team traveled to Fontbonne University on Wednesday afternoon. The Beavers fell to the Griffins, 63-56.
Sophomore India Harris and Junior Zoe Mitchell were both the top scorers for the Beavers with 12 points each. Mitchell also had the most assists of the game with four. Sophomore Ella Wilson recorded the most rebounds on the team with 11, followed by junior Caidy Tuetken and sophomore Kenadee Frey who each had nine rebounds.
Fontbonne started off by scoring a three pointer in the first 40 seconds of the game, but the Beavers answered right away with a made jump shot by Wilson. Scoring continued to go back and forth until sophomore Becca Benoit put in a layup to help the team take the lead. A minute later, the Griffins took the lead back, but the score still remained close for the rest of the half. Right before half, a foul on the Griffins sent Frey to the line for two where she sank both free throws, putting the Beavers in the lead at halftime with a score of 29-28.
In the second half, scoring was still back and forth, keeping it very close between the Beavers and the Griffins. Benoit regained the lead for the team after a made jump shot, but it was quickly taken back by Fontbonne after a three pointer. The Griffins stayed in the lead for the rest of the game, ending it with a score of 63-56.
The Beavers will host Greenville at home for their next match on Saturday afternoon.
