CARLINVILLE, IL -- The Blackburn Women's Basketball team traveled to Westminster College on Wednesday evening and scored the games first seven points. However it was not enough to pull off the upset.
Sophomore India Harris was the top scorer for the team with 19 points, and once again went 100% from the line. Sophomores Ella Wilson and Kenadee Frey each got two assists. Wilson and Harris both had the most rebounds at seven each, and Frey was right behind them with six.
The Beavers came out strong in the first half. Junior Caidy Tuetken started off the scoring by sinking a three pointer, followed by two made layups by Harris, putting the Beavers in the lead 7-0. The Blue Jays caught up two minutes later, and the scoring remained close for a while. Westminster then kept scoring and ran with the lead, putting the Beavers in a 54-19 deficit at halftime.
In the second half, layups and free throws were made by Harris, Tuetken, and Frey, as well as junior Amya Harris and junior Zoe Mitchell to put some points on the board for the Beavers. However, the Blue Jays were too far out of reach, making it difficult to catch up. Westminster maintained their big lead and defeated the Beavers with a final score of 99-35.
The Beavers will host Spalding University for their next match on Saturday afternoon.
